I was at the Pentagon two weeks ago, and bought a souvenir coffee cup, brought it home, took off the price tag, and saw that it was made in China. It is bad enough that China sells us much need rare earth metals, needed for computers and weapons operations, now it provides us with a morning reminder, of our dependence on Beijing. What is wrong with this? What does China import from America that is needed for her weapons operations, and a monday morning wake up?

  1. China seems like a vast, but troubled neighbor. Never truly a partner for the US, except perhaps in push towards globalization. The current money supply disturbances they are experiencing seem to have shaken world markets -- but I think, at the source, they were overdue. Militarily, though, their capacities are dwarfed by those of the US. The only exception to that observation, I believe, is for places they can walk (march) to.
